Modern Beauty is Ian’s first exhibition since returning to live in New Plymouth. In this series of works, Ian connects the anxiety and emotion of modern life with a world of influencers, followers and fake images. There is a series of paintings, studies of the emotion that every person feels growing up. And, in a series of digital prints, there is a reflection of the public profiles of influencers, whose own manipulated and polished self images, contribute to contemporary ideas of beauty. This is a sympathetic reading of modern life for his two daughters, who will have to face navigating their own path through life.
